Emulates / engines
  • Hurdy-gurdy: GURDY engine — bowed melodic string, tuned drones, buzzing trompette bridge
  • Bagpipe: reed chanter over root and fifth drones
  • Real period instruments (CC0, Versilian Studios): bowed psaltery, Renaissance chamber organ, baroque recorder, folk harp
  • 7 new 6-operator FM patches: French horn, spinet, crystal choir, dark strings, pipe organ, tuba

Dungeon synth (Old Tower, Hole Dweller, Mortiis vibes) on top of Felucca 1.0.5.2. Power it on and you drop straight into the dungeon: hurdy-gurdy melody, crypt pad, monks chanting, a drone in D minor at 72 BPM — under a splash skull, on an old-RPG screen with pixel typography, stone windows, a sword cursor and torches flickering on the wall.

Workflow

Dark-ambient/medieval soundscapes and songwriting; the PDF guide includes “dungeon recipes”. The installer backs up before writing.

Engines & what it emulates

The star engine is GURDY, a hurdy-gurdy: bowed melodic string, tuned drones and a buzzing trompette bridge; alongside it, a bagpipe (reed chanter over root and fifth drones). There are 7 new 6-operator FM patches (French horn, spinet, crystal choir, dark strings, lo-fi flute, pipe organ, tuba) and real CC0 recordings from Versilian Studios: bowed psaltery, Renaissance chamber organ, baroque recorder, folk harp, plus choirs, organs, lute, harpsichord. All told, 55 curated sounds across 12 engines.

What sets it apart

  • The HALL reverb goes from a 1.5 s stone chamber to a 12 s cathedral by borrowing the delay buffer — without a single extra byte of RAM.
  • TAPE/CRSH master: worn cassette + cheap sampler laid over everything.
  • The CRYPT palette (stone, bone, torch amber, blood red) and a 50-page PDF user guide.
  • Contributed the ROOM reverb click fix upstream to Felucca (PR #121).

Status & caveats

Stable (1.0 and 1.1 shipped the same day), hobby-paced and “tested on a single FM-1”, per the author himself. Mind the documentation: the README on the main branch is upstream Felucca’s — the real docs live on the ghoulbox branch and in the PDF.
