Based onFelucca
Emulates / engines
  • Sequential Prophet-5 Rev 4 (2 osc + hard sync, Poly-Mod, SSI Rev1/2 and Curtis Rev3 filters, .syx)
  • Yamaha DX7 (Dexed/msfa sample by sample, MARK I / MODERN / OPL modes)
  • Casio CZ-1 (MAME's uPD933, 64 factory tones, Casio SysEx)
  • TR-808 (circuit models on 8 tracks)

Melodee is Kerem Kiliç (keremimo, Ellic Studio, Belgium — also a Felucca contributor) taking the FM-1 seriously as an instrument: a modification of Felucca that goes “far beyond Felucca”, with unquantized recording, a huge microtonal scale system and three deep vintage emulations with real patch exchange. The deal: it sacrifices Felucca’s sample engines (SAMPLE, GRAIN, SLICE, PHYS, TRIO, WHEEL, custom kits) for sequencer depth and engine fidelity.

Workflow

An instrument for the keyboardist/producer, with faithful vintage patch exchange (Prophet/CZ/DX7 via .syx), microtonal exploration and melodic work from an MPC Sample; 4-channel USB audio. 70 scales: 16 standard plus 54 microtonal — EDOs from 5 to 53, just intonation, Partch, historical temperaments, maqam, shruti, gamelan, Bohlen–Pierce — with a family browser, and A4 adjustable from 400 to 480 Hz. Live recording is unquantized (1,024 timestamped notes, 32 banks), with reversible quantization (OFF by default), a per-note editor and 8 levels of undo. QNT mode: MPC pads → scale degrees.

Engines & what it emulates

Eight engines. PROPHET = Sequential Prophet-5 Rev 4: 2 osc + hard sync, Poly-Mod, SSI Rev1/2 and Curtis Rev3 4-pole filters, and the 200 programs of Sequential’s v1.03 factory bank — LFO and envelopes tuned against recordings of the Rev 4, .syx both ways. FM6 = DX7 via Dexed/msfa, sample by sample, in MARK I / MODERN / OPL modes. CZ-1 = native Casio tones on MAME’s uPD933 model (Devin Acker): full 144-byte tone, Casio SysEx. And DRUM = TR-808 circuit models on 8 tracks. (ChoralRoot recycles its FM6 and CZ-1.)

What sets it apart

  • Serious validation: a host-side test suite, reference renders against the originals, on-device CPU measurements.
  • 8 pattern banks per track, 16-row songs, a modulation matrix, a startup project and templates.

Status & caveats

Beta and very active; FBKG project format. The warning that matters: installing an earlier firmware or the official V15 after 0.13 wipes the Prophet’s user slots. Export first; the installer backs up automatically.
