V15 patch (czietz)

stable M-VaveFirmware
AuthorChristian Zietz (czietz)
LicenseUnlicense (public domain)
Repositoryhttps://github.com/czietz/fm1-firmware-patcher
Based onstock V15 (binary patch)
Emulates / engines
  • DX7 (detune corrected to match Dexed/Yamaha)
  • Aftertouch without vibrato (corrected behavior)

The smallest mod in the entire scene: a Python script that modifies the official V15 firmware in exactly four places, byte by byte. (1) The corrected detune to match Dexed/Yamaha’s DX7 — the bug traced on Elektronauts (credit to Kris Naphtali) and admitted by M-VAVE’s own support: they used exp2 instead of exp in the msfa formula. (2) Out with the aftertouch vibrato. (3) Blue oscilloscope. (4) Green FX cursor — its “you’re running custom firmware” indicator.

The V14 detour

The operational caveat: you must downgrade to V14 first. M-UPGRADE compares the patched V15 against stock and sees them as identical — four bytes don’t change the version — so it refuses to install it; the detour through V14, and the same one on the way back, are part of the ritual.

Status

Stable, Unlicense — public domain —, dating from September 27. The same detune was fixed by Baud Girl FM-1+VA on its own and in its own way; this patch is the minimal route for anyone who doesn’t want to change firmwares. More of the world around it in the ecosystem.
